Larry Chapman joined Burgoyne Incorporated as a fire investigator in 2007. His fire scene expertise includes, but is not limited to residential and commercial properties, vehicles, watercraft, and other structures or property. Larry has experience in the field of large loss fire scene investigations including textile mills, churches, and motels. He has conducted in excess of 1,000 fire scene examinations throughout his career and has provided expert testimony in the field of fire investigations in numerous state courts in South Carolina and in the United States District Court for the Greenville South Carolina District.
Larry began his law enforcement career in 1973 with the Pickens Police Department as a patrol officer and joined the South Carolina Highway Patrol in 1976. As a member of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, he was a member of the DUI Saturation Team and the Riot Squad. In 1989 Larry accepted a position with the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office and became the sheriff’s office fire investigator. He continued his training with the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office, rising from the rank of Sergeant to Captain, while investigating arson, narcotics, and violent crimes. In addition, Larry served as Chief Helicopter Pilot and Training Officer for the sheriff’s office. In 1992 he was chosen to be a member of the 11th Judicial District Multi-Jurisdictional Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force Unit and was appointed as Commander of the unit. In 1998, Larry returned to state law enforcement with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). As a Special Agent, he was assigned to the Arson/Bomb Investigation Unit. He retired from SLED in 2007 prior to accepting his appointment with Burgoyne Incorporated.
Larry has trained at the National Fire Academy and with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives as well as a host of state and local schools. He holds his Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator designation from the National Association of Fire Investigators. He has served as a guest instructor at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, the Carolinas Institute for Community Policing, Greenville Technical College, and the Carolina Fire Investigators Association. Larry is licensed as a private investigator in the states of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee.
